One of the great strengths of the Penfolds Grange style is that it does not rely on the performance of a single vineyard. Max Schubert recognised that Grange should be based on a riper spectrum of fruit. He knew intuitively that fruit power, concentration and ripe tannins were key components of optimum quality. He was well ahead of his time. A blend of 92% Shiraz and 8% cent Cabernet Sauvignon from the Magill Estate, Morphett Vale and Modbury Vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, with components from the Barossa's Kalimna Vineyard and the Coonawarra. A hot dry growing season with hot vintage conditions. Maturation for eighteen months in new American oak hogsheads. Alcohol 12.70% Acidity 6.70g/L pH 3.52.
