Yendah is the headquarters of the Casella winemaking operations, and the name of a beautiful Aboriginal girl who once lived with the Tumut tribe. The beauty of the mythical Yendah is captured in the landscape surrounding the village that today bears her name, nestled below the Cocoparra Range in the Riverina. Decadent aromas to this oustanding, dashing table red, enticing flavours of apricot, and yummy hints of cherry.
Established in 1969 Filippo and Maria Casella, the family owned and operated Casella Wines has created some of the most immediately recognizable Australian exports. Situated in the Riverina region of NSW, Casella produce a wide range of varietal wines made from grapes grown throughout eastern Australia. Casella pride themselves on producing wines that reflect vintage, variety and regionality. Now run by three generations of the Casella family, the winery continues to rapidly expand, leaping forward with the success of the Yendah Shiraz Viognier. Harvested mid-vintage, the Viognier component contributes intense aromas to the mostly Shiraz Cuvee, whilst softening the palate and contributing marvelous complexity.
A deep ruby red in colour, with rich blackberry and lifted spice notes, this Shiraz-Viognier is a classic blend of two varieties distinct in both character and intensity. Lifted cherry and apricot scents dominate the nose. With the pleasing vanilla and fine structure of French oak maturation, the blend features underlying cinnamon with hints of chocolate and cassis. A glace cherry, white chocolate and spicey berry-ridden palate, fully flavoured and fruit driven, with attractive vanillin oak around the edges. It finishes velvety smooth, with good length of intense fruit flavours, and superb tannins. A wine of structure, together with excellent weight and a warm, ripe mouthfeel which promises to compliment perfectly your favourite cuisine.

More About Casella Wines
The Casella family has been making wine since 1820 in Italy, and since 1965 in Australia
Filippo and Maria Casella emigrated to Australia from Italy in the 1950s bringing with them their hopes and dreams and the know-how acquired through three generations of grape-growing and winemaking in Italy. Recognising the potential of the region, Filippo purchased a farm in the town of Yenda, New South Wales, in 1965. After selling the grapes from his farm to local wineries, he decided in 1969 that it was time for a new generation to put its winemaking skills to use, and the winery was born. Casella»
