One of Australia's most esteemed and enduring white wines, completely unoaked, a fresh and vital Sauvignon Blanc to be consumed in it's youth. Low yields and careful management in the vineyard translate into a wine of elegance, complexity and irresistible varietal charm. A lively wine of intensity and well defined cool climate Sauvignon Blanc characters, brimming with fragrant tropical highlights, vegetal, gooseberry and slate. Established in 1982, Scotchmans Hill has become a producer of some of Australia's most complex, elegant and consistent wines. The vineyards are located on Mt Bellarine which was named by the Scottish immigrants who settled the area in the 1840s. Sauvignon Blanc clones F4V6 and H5V10 from vines up to twenty five years of age planted to sandy loam and volcanic clays over broken basalt subsoils, trellised to vertical shoot positioning, yielding 3.0kg per vine and 3.0tn per acre. Grapes are crushed, de-stemmed and pressed into temperature controlled tanks, inoculated and vinified at 13C for a fortnight, followed by lees contact without any exposure to oak.
TASTING NOTESPale straw with green hues. Lifted and perfumed bouquet of tropical fruits, gooseberries, passionfruit with nettle notes. A tight, mineral palate showing tropical fruits, with passionfruit, gooseberry flavours and a hint of nettles on the mid-palate. This is balanced by clean fresh acid with a lingering aftertaste. Scotchmans Hill should be enjoyed in its youth while best displaying its fresh varietal character. |
