A mostly Old Vines Grenache, redolent with lifted aromatics and dulcet fruit flavours over a length of refined, sandy tannins. Shiraz contributes red berries, spices and palate weight, Touriga brings pungency, plum pudding, dried herb and floral notes. Mataro adds textural tannin structure and the perfumes of Provence. SC Pannell GSTM is so much more than the sum of parts, a complex and edifying old world recipe of grapes, fashioned to a style which will enthuse and delight all true red wine zealouts. A rich McLaren Vale cépage, two thirds Grenache, a fifth of Shiraz, the balance in Touriga and Mataro. All parcels are hand harvested, crushed and traditionally vinified in small open top vessels to optimise flavour, colour and tannin extraction. Temperatures are kept between 15C and 35° over the course of a fortnight, as fermenting caps are treated to a course of hand plunging and pumpovers. Upon completion of ferments and malolactic, batches are transferred to a selection of well seasoned 500L French oak puncheons for several months of age.
TASTING NOTESDark ruby colour. Lifted fruit notes of cranberry and cherries, interwoven with lovely dried spice, cumin, lavender and graphite. A highly flavoursome, medium bodied wine, its silky palate of ripe berry, dark olive and sweet fruit flavours is supported by a fine length of integrated tannins, culminating on a balanced, lingering finish. A splendid synergy with good food. |

SC Pannell is a small, family owned and operated winery, established 2004 by Stephen Pannell and wife Fiona Lindquist. The winery was founded to focus on Stephen's passion for McLaren Vale and its ability to produce dry grown, environmentally sustainable Shiraz and Grenache. In his capacity as Chief Red Wine Maker at BRL Hardy, Pannell gained an intimate knowledge of the region’s vineyards and sub-regional variations, he was able to secure exquisite parcels of old vine Grenache and Shiraz from low yielding, dry grown sites.
