Founder's Block is a story about John Riddoch, patriarch of Coonawarra. While the traditions may have started long ago, Founder's Block are made for today, inviting a modern generation to experience and indulge in the fruit of Coonawarra. Katnook's natural affinity to Cabernet Sauvignon means a well proportioned wine with generous regional fruit character, meaty tannins and long, satisfying finish. An easy partner to a wide range of foods including meat and tomato pasta, marinades and grills or bold recipes with spicy or smokey flavours.

In 1890 John Riddoch established his Coonawarra Fruit Colony on a property called Katnook, one of Australia's great viticultural districts was born. Founder's Block is a natural progression for Katnook. The wines are genuinely focused on contemporary palates and lifestyle, honest, fruit driven and harmonious. Founder's Block may be for some, an introduction to Katnook Estate, they are also for many Katnook's devotees, their informal drinking wines. Parcels of Cabernet grapes are vinified into an approachable young wine, brimming with Coonawarra character. Finished with minimal oak, a component is aged in a selection of seasoned French and American oak barriques.
