Cyril Hensche planted Cabernet Sauvignon in the Eden Valley during the 1960s and was instrumental in crystalizing the Henschke name as an internationally recognizable luxury brand. Nowadays the vineyard has a permanent sod culture of early maturing perennial rye and cocksfoot grasses in the row. Cyril is a mostly Cabernet Sauvignon wine with smaller components of Merlot and Cabernet Franc grown to the Henschke property on Eden Valley. The precious fruit is treated to a traditional vinification in ancient, open top fermenters, very much in the same way as Cyril Henschke's day. Components are matured in a selection of new French oak hogheads for two years prior to assemblage.
