Tyrrell is inextricably linked to the story of wine in Australia. The estate's Rufus Stone vineyard in the Mclaren Vale yields intensely flavoured Shiraz grapes with deep colours and a firm natural acidity. The fruit is always clean, in good health, and well ripened. The fruit is harvested, crushed and chilled on site at the Willunga vineyard before being transported by tanker to the Tyrrell wineworks in the Hunter Valley for fermentation. The truck provides an opportune vessel for doing the pre-ferment cold soak which extracts colour and flavour from the grapes. Rufus Stone is matured for eighteen months in a selection of new and prior use, predominantly American oak barriques. Alcohol 14.2%
