Bin A series Chardonnay is a pathfinder wine, fortuitous achievement of the consequential Penfolds white wine project. Reserve Bin A has evolved into a wine with a distinctive style, it remains an integral part of the Penfolds portfolio. Exclusively Adelaide Hills Chardonnay is sourced from up to eighty vineyards with a core provenance from ten elite cooler sites. Bin A is very much for the connoisseur, a highly suitable match bresaola and seaweed consomme, grilled Marron or crisply truffled skin chicken, Bin A demands a decant and is not for the faint of heart.

The Penfold brand began as an Adelaide Hills winemaker, the company has returned to its roots for parcels of the finest Chardonnay in Australia. Grapes are all hand picked into small bins and whole bunch pressed. Juices are filled to barrique directly from the press and allowed to undergo a natural fermentation, sans inoculation. Every barrique is its own unique 225-litre ferment. Enhanced mouthfeel and complexities are achieved by fermenting on solids, using a selective mix of new and aged French oak. The wine undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation, all completely natural. Barrel fermented and matured for nine months on lees in a selection of mostly new, exclusively French oak barriques.
