Adam Henkell established himself as a wine merchant in Mainz circa 1832, laying the foundation of today's Henkell & Soehnlein. As early as 1856, Henkell devoted himself to the production of popular sparkling wines. Following the creation of the Henkell Trocken label in the late 19th century, his grandson Otto transformed this delightful, sparkling cuvee into a highly esteemed marque that was enjoyed worldwide. The term piccolo became a registered trademark in the early 1930s, and even today can only legally be used for the 0%2 litre bottling of Henkell Trocken. Nevertheless, it has become part of the lingua franca. Alcohol 11.5%
