Great focus has been placed on the varied sub-soils and microclimes at Diamond Valley. Choice blocks are grown on challenging river flats and terraces, some are planted to the steepest altitudes in Yarra Valley. From the more precipitous slopes, aspect is of great importance, those inclined to face the north are preferred sites. The salubrious soils on the northern side of these choice blocks are blessed with magnificent Merlot growing terroirs, loamy sands to clay loam in consistency with red brown clay subsoils, frequently impregnated with rock. The finished wine is treated to an extended maturation in small French oak casks under the Diamond Valley cellars.
