Copper Trail was a route forged by prospectors following the discovery of minerals at Burra in the late 1840s. The Copper Trail passed through the Clare Valley just south of Watervale, through land on which the vineyards of Annie's Lane today produce some of the area's finest wines. Copper Trail Cabernet is an assemblage of the very best fruit Clare Valley has to offer, vineyards are earmarked for their consistency at yielding the most superlative fruit, parcels are isolated on the basis of the most distinctive expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Copper Trail is made to a minimal intervention approach, retaining and enhancing the natural expression of the fruit. Parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon must meet the most stringent quality requirements, showing great depth of colour, intense flavours and the finest tannins. Small batch open fermenters are used to keep vineyard parcels separate, allowing the winemaker to maintain and develop the unique characteristics of each vineyard. Some parcels finish fermentation in oak while others are left to macerate on skins for up to fourteen days after completion of fermentation. The wines are gently pressed into a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels to mature for twenty months. Alcohol 13.7%
TASTING NOTES
A rich, velvet red in the glass. Brimming with lifted aromas of tobacco, violets and cassis. The palate has rich, earthy cigar box characters, balanced with intense berry flavours. The long, lingering finish is supported by elegant, grainy tannins and well integrated oak. A rich Cabernet wine displaying complexity of flavour and structure, with the individual vineyard attributes layered together to achieve a balanced and synergistic whole. Serve alongside kangaroo fillet with Jus dubonnet or lamb with black cherry glaze and field mushrooms.
 Annies Lane
It was on October 2 1851 that Francis Treloar purchased his first piece of land in Watervale on which the historic Quelltaler winery stands today
On January 3, 1853 Treloar and his family moved to their new home in Watervale. The house was a simple hut like so many in which pioneer families began their farming lives. On June 15, 1854 Treloar planted his first patch of vines which he obtained as cuttings from a Mr Solly. Annies Lane»
