Trout Valley wines are sourced and vinified by Kahurangi on the Upper Moutere, very near Nelson at the top northwest corner of New Zealand's South Island. The greater Nelson region is renowned for its vibrant arts scene and stylish, boutique winemakers, also home to some of the finest brown trout fishing water in the world. Trout Valley is a medium to full bodied white with a most welcome, savoury edge to it's fruit dominated structure. A treat of a Sauvignon Blanc with mouthfilling palate and complex aromas for adherents of contemplative and engaging wines.
Kahurangi means a treasured possession, precious jewel, pale greenstone and/or blue sky. Trout Valley wines are sourced from superior vineyards along the Nelson, each with their own characteristic style of fruit. Skillfully vinified and artfully finished, they ensure consistent quality from vintage to vintage. Fruit is harvested from vines on the Waimea Plains, planted to Moutere clay and free draining, stony alluvial soils. Sauvignon Blanc grown here achieves classic varietal flavours and bright, virile bouquets. Bunches are crushed, inoculated to choice yeasts and treated to a cool, temperature controlled vinification to preserve freshness and retain essential fruit characters.
TASTING NOTESClear greenish hues. Herbaceous and tropical fruit aromas on the nose. Scents of lychee and grass congeal with currants, lemon and snow pea. The palate is dominated by gooseberry, grapefruit and citrus flavours over fine textures and mouthfeel. This distinctively Nelson influenced Sauvignon Blanc culminates in a clean and lingering, well balanced, satisfying finish.
