Excellent Langtons Classification. The icon wine of Houghton, from the elite Justin Vineyard at Frankland River, powerful and complex, crafted in dutiful honour of the late Jack Mann, father of Houghton Wines and sage of the Australian wine industry. Jack Mann contributed more to West Australian wine than any one else. He created styles, often way ahead of their time, yet insisted nature was the only true winemaker. From 1922 Mann made fifty one consecutive vintages at Houghton, ever challenging the standards of his day and leading by example.
Frankland River is characterised by cool winters, warm summer days and cool summer nights. It's soils are degraded granite gravels, some of the oldest in the world. An original Houghton clone of Cabernet Sauvignon, developed by Jack Mann is harvested off a small patch of vines, over 35 years old at the centre of Justin Vineyard. Grapes are all hand picked and sorted, crushed and vinified in small open top fermenters. The caps are gently plunged to ensure rich colour, flavour and tannin extraction. Upon completion, ferments are pressed to a selection of new and one year old French oak barrels made by Bordeaux coopers for eighteen months, followed by fined and minimal filtration.
TASTING NOTES
Dense in colour, deep purple red with bright scarlet hue. Intense aromatics of blackberry, cassis and dark berry fruits, black olive and hints of mint with dark chocolate and fine cedary French oak. The palate is full flavoured and rich, intense and complex. Concentrated, classic Cabernet fruit flavours supported by well integrated, fine French oak. The plush sweet fruit flavours are long on the palate, as supported by firm, fine tannin structure. A beautiful wine in every respect.

About Houghton Wines
Established in 1836, Houghton has the enviable position as Western Australia's most awarded winemaker
Houghton Wines, based in the heart of the Swan Valley, contains a wealth of romantic history. Named after Lieutenant Colonel Richmond Houghton in 1836, the first commercial vintage was produced in 1859 totalling 25 gallons, the foundation for one of Australia's oldest continuous winemakers. The picturesque Houghton winery property today has fifty hectares planted with premium grape varieties including Verdelho, Chardonnay, Semillon and Chenin Blanc. Early documentation and current research suggests the first vines were planted between 1830 and 1836. Houghton»
