Originally planted in 1997, the Yal Yal property has been trained since establishment to yield limited harvests of the finest fruit. A source of Chardonnay for Mornington's most distinguished labels, the pick of crop was set aside in 2009 for inaugural release, it met with resounding critical acclaim and sold out within a few months.Treated to a course of rich barrel ferments and a term of age in fine French oak, Yal Yal defines the stately style of Mornington Chardonnay, a match to marinated spatchcock and truffled white meat recipes.
Nestled between Westernport and Port Phillip Bays, fronting the grandeur of tempestuous Bass Strait, Mornington's salubrious maritime climes create the perfect place to grow grapes and make good wine. The hills and beachscapes around Yal Yal are populated by the most wonderful vineyards. Local grapes ripen to achieve great natural acidity and superb flavours which articulate the influence of longer ripening seasons. Chardonnay is selectively hand picked, sorted for inclusion and whole bunch pressed into a combination of seasoned and new French oak barriques for a wild indigenous yeast vinification. After completion, components remain on sedimentery yeast lees for a year's maturation before assemblage.
TASTING NOTES
Light straw gold hue. Chilled stonefruit nose, cashes and nashi pear, hawthorn, acacia and applejack. Fresh and delicate palate lined with juicy, aromatic grapefruit and pear flavours, supported by a background of macadamia nuttiness and creamy lees complexity, before a long, lingering finish. Perfect with grilled fresh fish or almond trout.

About the Yal Yal Winery
Yal Yal Estate is a picturesque, boutique estate vineyard, planted to some spectacular terroirs on Mornington Peninsula
Yal Yal vineyard is tucked away into the valley amongst the rolling hills of Merricks. Only a five minute drive to the beach, the property gently slopes down the hill and abuts twenty acres of untrammeled bush, which is largely impenetrable and full of native animals and bird life. The vineyard resounds with the sounds of kookaburra's calling and koala's seeking their mates. An old wallaby can often be found at dusk hopping between the vines. Working closely alongside renowned winemaker Sandro Mosele, Liz and Simon Gillies launched the Yal Yal Road label in 2010. Yal Yal»
