Argiano is an ancient place, full of history. At the summit of a wonderful hill, southwest of Montalcino, the magnificent Villa of Argiano was built during the renaissance by the Peccis, a noble family from Siena. The very special vineyards which make a contributrion to Solengo are endowed with a convergence of propitious growing conditions which are ideal for the noble red grapes of France's Medoc and Cotes du Rhone, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, Merlot and Syrah.
Argiano take their pick of fruit from many of the region's most eminent growers. Soils here are of eocenic origin, formed by marly limestone with some clay areas. Grapes are all picked by hand into small baskets. Parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah are separately macerated for a fortnight or more, individually fermented and treated to malolactic before transfer to a selection of completely new French oak barriques for a year and a half of maturation.
TASTING NOTESIntense, deep black purple colour. A bouquet of ripe fruits, black currants and blackberry, infused with toasty oak. The palate shows impressive structure and complexity, tempered by exemplary tannic extracts.
