Unico Cosecha is a very long lived wine. Components of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec or Merlot, vary from vintage to vintage, retaining a remarkable youthfulness of fruit and seamless integration with oak after ten years ageing under the Vega Sicilia cellars. Vega Sicilia is unquestionably a unique wine, one of the great Spanish classics. It's personality is derived from the quality of fruit, rigour at elevage and uncompromising attention to detail throughout vinification. The ageing of Unico Cosecha begins in the January following vintage, initially in large capacity wooden vats for up to two years before a regimen of racking into a progression of new and seasoned, estate coopered oak casks. Over a course of seven to ten years, the wine is transferred from younger to older oak, with a view to achieving harmony and integration. After several years of racking and transfer, Unico Cosecha is finally rested in larger wooden vats and prepared for bottling.
TASTING NOTESCherry with ruby robes. A complexity of aromas, fine oak, compote and balsam, rosemary and menthol. Palate entry is subtle and discreet, followed by an opulence of fruit characters. Notes of tobacco and menthol, blackberries and prune integrate with the extravagant oak, supported by dusty, leafy tannins, for a wine of remarkable aromatic complexity and immeasurable palate persistence. |
