Giovanni Maglieri migrated to South Australia 1958 and worked the vineyards at Pirramimma. He bought forty hectares of McLaren Vale scrub in 1965 and set about the task of clearing land to establish vines. The quality of Maglieri wines rose dramatically, by the early 1990s Maglieri was well positioned within the pantheon of first growth McLaren Vale estates. A classically structured, engagingly complex wine which displays great depth of colour, luscious aromas and intensity of palate, easily one of the most essential examples in McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon.
Giovanni Maglieri set out from the very start to create regionally expressive McLaren Vale wines. When John Loxton joined Maglieri in 1981, the estate was able to harvest the fruit of Giovanni Maglieri's labours, and to establish a distinctive House style. John Loxton was judged to have made the Best 1992 McLaren Vale Red Wine and was crowned as conferred with the prestigious title of Bushing King. In the years that followed, Maglieri accumulated further successes at competitions throughout Australia and overseas. Today Maglieri retain many of the best Cabernet vines to be found in McLaren Vale. The finished wine is treated to an extended maturation under a selection of the finest oaks.
TASTING NOTES
Deep crimson colour. The nose displays lifted aromas of vanilla and violets, blackcurrants and spice, liquorice and allsorts - an impressive start. The palate is rich and smooth, laden with ripe berries, cherries and blackcurrants and Medocey expressions of fruit. The tannins are smooth, the finish is met by lasting impressions of red currants. Ready to drink today, or to cellar for development.

Giovanni Maglieri arrived in McLaren Vale in 1958 and worked in the vineyards of Pirramimma Wines
Five years later, Giovanni’s 17-year-old son, Steve, arrived in Australia. Then, in 1965, the pair bought 40 hectares of McLaren Vale scrub and set about the task of clearing it and planting vines. In 1972 Steve started his own winery Gully Wines, which he renamed Maglieri Wines in 1977. Maglieri»
