The Shiraz of Australia's west possesses an individuality and charm, a uniqueness of character and a style all its own. At once, brighter and more piquant than Shiraz from any other region in the nation, it makes a richly complex, polished and engaging wine. Moondah Brook are a winery with a history, having planted their first vineyards half a century ago. They still retain access to these precious old sites, for a solid backbone of fine Shiraz, to be vinified alongside choice parcels, treated to an adroit vinification and aged in the finest oak.
Established in the 1960s as an independent brand with a view to making approachable, regionally articulate wines, the highly awarded team at Moondah Brook work to a philosophy of allowing the unique character of terroir and clime to express itself. Managed by Western Australia's most eminent winemakers ever since acquisition by Houghton, they can count on harvests from mature estate vineyards throughout the finer viticultural precincts of Western Australia. Parcels of Shiraz are sourced from choice sites up to thirty years of age. Following primary fermentation, Moondah Brook is treated to malolactic and maturation in a selection of oak barrels, to integrate complexity of fruit and soften the tannins.
TASTING NOTES
Deeply coloured, youthful purple hues. Vibrant nose of lifted berries and red currant, spices and cloves, cracked black pepper supported by toasted sweet vanillin oak. Fresh intense varietal fruit flavours, dark cherries and plum, licorice and spice, a soft sweet core of fruit over a sound structure of fine, firm tannins, before a lingering, memorable finish.

About Moondah Brook Winery
The original Moondah Brook Estate was established in 1968, a 92 hectare property located at Gingin, north of Perth
The vineyard was established because of its unique climate. Sea breezes in the afternoon and gully winds of an evening assist with the reduction in temperatures at ripening time, allowing the wines to display great varietal character. Moondah Brook»
