A pure, additives free, non preservatives Verdelho wine from one of the most inscrutably managed vineyards in Langhorne Creek. Temple Bruer have long held to the philosophy that responsible farmers should aim to minimise chemical inputs into our environment. This philosophy was put into practice in the early 1990s, when conversion to fully certified organic grapegrowing practices commenced. Temple Bruer prepare their own compost, a hundred tonnes each year, made from grape seeds and skins, grass, hay and yeast lees from the fermentations.
Verdelho is sourced from Temple Bruer's certified organic vineyard at Langhorne Creek. The dry growing season produces low yields of excellent quality, intensely flavoured fruit, absent of any disease, highly favourable for the creation of a wine without added preservative. Grapes are grown to be clean with perfect natural acidity, vital for preservative free wines. Harvesting commences in the cool of dawn, as a strict control of timing and temperature are critical. Fruit is crushed, chilled and swiftly pressed before a short period of cold settling. A slow cool fermentation retains beautiful, youthful aromatics. A course of malolactic increases palate weight and complexity, no sulphur dioxide or organic finings are ever added.
TASTING NOTESRich with flavours of honey dew melon, peaches and hints of sherbet. Temple Breur shows lifted freshness on the nose while the palate displays vibrant fruits, lush and creamy with a silky texture balanced by crisp acidity. The finish is long and clean. Best drunk while young and fresh. The winemaker estimates the shelf life to be about two to three years. Enjoy on a laid back sunny afternoon with vegetarian nibbles, light seafood or Asian inspired dishes.
