The amicable accord of Merlot and Cabernet, fashioned into a gentle plummy style. The Wild Oats team have assembled select harvests of fruit alongside choice parcels from their estate vineyards back home in New South Wales. A mostly Cabernet wine with a smaller component of Merlot, well rounded and approachable, offering good structure and length. Wild oats is bright, vibrant and stylish with varietal blackberries, cherry and spice.
Wild Oats patriarch, namesake Bob Oatley, was awarded British Empire Medal for services in Papua New Guinea before he established the mighty Rosemount Estate. Mudgee is now the vinous home and heart of the Oatleys and their Wild Oats. Their experiences with the region date back to the 1970s and they acquired their first vineyard here, Mountain Blue in the 1990s. An assemblage of Cabernet and Merlot grown to estate vineyards, with further components from Margaret River. The aim is to produce a wine with structure and personality. Whilst matured in predominantly French oak, wood character does not dominate, allowing the Cabernet's blackcurrant and mulberry fruit to come to the fore.
TASTING NOTES
Deep red. A bouquet of dark currants and dried herb is enlivened by a hint of sweetly spiced oak. Mouth filling flavours of blackcurrant and ripe mulberries combine easily with a touch of cedarwood and crushed eucalypt leaves. A layer of fine, tight tannins gives a gentle yet positive grip to the seemingly everlasting finish. Will age if you wish but drinks very well right now.

About the Oatley Winery
The Oatley Wines story is of the legendary Oatley family themselves, supported by an outstanding group of extended family and friends
The Oatleys have played an important part in the Australian wine industry since their first vintage at Rosemount Estate in 1974. Those wines were the predecessors of many hundreds of highly awarded and recognised bottlings of fine Australian wine under the Oatley family direction. With the 2001 merger of Rosemount to Southcorp Wines and the subsequent sale of Southcorp to Foster’s in 2005, the Oatleys decided to re-enter the wine business. Logically they followed their calling back to the vineyard and established Oatley Wines, quickly gathering a team of extended family and friends to do the job. Oatley»
