Pyrus retains an everlasting tenure within the pantheon of great Australian wines, one of the few to win the illustrious Jimmy Watson Trophy. This statuesque Medoc
cépage of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Franc, picked off the most elite Coonawarra vineyards, is exactingly crafted by the most accomplished winemakers within the Lindemans team, into a dark, rich red accord of extraordinary complexity, remarkable integration, stylishness and intensity, paradoxically an Australian icon wine which can be enjoyed in its youth.
Hand selected harvests of the finest Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc are sourced from the heart of the famous Terra Rossa strip, including precious parcels from the century old Nursery Vineyard, the oldest planting in Coonawarra. The idyllic growing conditions and extended ripening period yield limited harvests of intensely flavoured fruit of intense ripeness and velvet textured tannins. Pyrus relies upon a backbone of old vine Cabernet Sauvignon, fleshed out according to vintage, by varying components of Malbec, Merlot and Franc, to fashion into a rich yet refined and elegant wine. Pyrus is matured eighteen months in a selection of the finest French and American oak barrels.
TASTING NOTESDense inky purple hue. Attractive blackberry, black olive and violet aromas over the savoury complexity of nutty oak. Full bodied palate with rich dark fruit, textural and firm with savoury tannins. Plummy Merlot fills out the mid-palate, spicy, earthy notes of the Franc contribute to the silkiness and finesse. A generous accord of great intensity, balance and length and balance, all the hallmarks of an ultra fine Coonawarra.
