It was the Stonier team who put Mornington on the map for world class Pinot Noir. Several precious Reserve blocks, growing vines up to thirty years of age, are planted to predominantly cooler sites around Merricks and Merricks North. The grapes here are picked slightly later in the season, as the slow ripening blocks achieve limited harvests of the most intensely flavoured fruit. Delicately framed by understated oak, a powerfully fruit driven Pinot Noir offering layers of complexity, true elegance and exquisite richness of flavour.
Low yields of small bunches with low berry numbers translate into the richest Pinot Noir. Stonier's Reserve is noteworthy for it's purity of fruit, reflecting the virtue of older vines. Stonier take a holistic approach to viticulture, minimal inputs and irrigation by rainfall, encouraging the vine's natural defence for disease control, hand pruning and picking. The choicest estate grown parcels are vinified in small, open fermenters, most components are treated to an extended skin maceration, a small portion being whole bunch fermented. Upon completion, the wine is pressed into a combination of new and prior use French oak barrels for completion of malolactic and extended maturation with a minimal interference before bottling.
TASTING NOTES
Deep, bright red. Very perfumed bouquet of morello cherry, redcurrants and dark chocolate, floral, spiced complexity and subtle French oak. Substantial weight of fruit and tannin on the palate, well balanced acidity lending freshness to the powerful fruit. A firm but fine tannic grip before a lingering finish laden with fruit. A silky, textural Pinot which resonates of black cherries, berries and spiced plum.

About the Stonier Winery
In 1978, Brian Stonier and his wife Noel established the Stonier vineyard in the coastal town of Merricks, one hour southeast of Melbourne, ten minutes from the challenging surf beaches of Bass Straight
Decades later, the name Stonier is widely recognised as a producer of exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. At the heart of Stonier lies a meticulous approach to viticulture and winemaking. A desire to reflect the imprint of each site, through subtle variations in flavour and texture, interweaving these differences to form elegant wines of seamless complexity has earned Stonier a place amongst the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producers in Australia. Stonier sources Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from over 150 acres across 5 selected sub-regions; Merricks North, Balnarring, Tuerong, Red Hill and at the estate vineyards in Merricks which span over 50 acres.
