Outstanding Langtons Classification. A historic wine, the stuff of which legends are made, Victoria's answer to Grange. St Peters is the signature Grampians Shiraz by the House of Seppelt, crafted from mature vines fruit, hand picked off a canon of distinguished and superior old parcels, the backbone from St Peter, Imperial and Great Western Vineyards, established during the 1930s. Harmony defines the integration between layers of complexity and tightness of structure, a concentration of black plum and fragrant spice persists over a framework of tightly knit oak.
Released in very small quantities and only in exceptional years, the lineage of this iconic wine dates back to 1964 when Great Western Hermitage was first made. Grown to exceptional blocks planted on weathered volcanic soils, the virtuous St Peters Shiraz combines low yielding old vines with one and a half centuries of experience. Vinification is highly traditional, including pumpovers in a mix of static and open top fermenters, rack, returns and malolactic. Upon completion, batches remain on skins for up to three weeks for optimal extraction of vibrant colours and earthy tannins. St Peter is treated to an extended maturation in a high proportion of new French oak.
TASTING NOTES
Deep crimson with purple hues. An enticing nose with perfumed sweet spice, blueberry fruits and complexing savoury nuances. Intense mulberry and black fruit characters combine with savoury and spice notes. This impeccably structured wine displays fine textural tannins and structural oak with layers of complexity and an exceptionally long finish. An endowment of distinctive Grampian Shiraz characters which will continue to develop gracefully.
