Tim Gramp is fifth generation of the family which made Orlando Wines famous
Tim has continued the tradition under his very own label, his estate wineworks are fortuitously based in the Clare Valley, home to some of Australia’s finest vineyards. Nestled in the hamlet of Leasingham, 2 kilometres south of Watervale, the Tim Gramp winery has served as a production and cellar door since 1996. The four acre Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard, winery complex and old stone cottage provided the perfect opportunity for Tim Gramp to pursue his winemaking direction and philosophy. Since 1996, many developments have taken place at Gramp headquarters. These include extensive renovations to the old cottage, a total refit to the winery, a new crushing facility and crusher/ destemmer, housing of an old basket press and the planting of a new Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard, designed using a unique Italian Sylvoz trellising system, the first of its kind in Clare Valley.

The Tim Adams winery is located 130 kilometres north of Adelaide in South Australia’s beautiful Clare Valley
Tim Adams began work in the wine industry as a cellarhand at the Stanley Wine Company in February 1975. He progressed to the position of laboratory assistant in 1976, and with encouragement and financial assistance from Mr Mick Knappstein, the then General Manager, Tim enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Science (Wine Science) at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, NSW, and began studying by correspondence.

The Thorn-Clarke family has a long history in the Barossa, six generations of involvement in the region's world famous wine industry
The Barossa Valley was settled in the early 1840s by small farmers and artisans seeking religious freedom from their native Silesia. The warm, fertile valley was ideal for ripening winegrapes and Australia's largest wineries made their headquarters amongst the vineyards. In the cooler ranges above the Barossa, known as Eden Valley, English settlers created large pastoral runs for sheep and cattle, but also planted vineyards to ensure a supply of table wine.

Best known as an inspirational leader of the contemporary Grenache movement, Thistledown make small batch wines from the fruit of wonderful South Australian vineyards
It's no secret that Thistledown are obsessed with Grenache, particularly the old vine, dry grown stuff of Barossa and McLaren Vale. Maybe it's the result of years travelling around the vineyards of Spain. Grenache, in all its guises, flows through the veins of Thistledown's devoted team. They have begun assembling a collection of some of the best Grenache vineyards, with the intention of becoming the authority on Australian Grenache. Thistledown's approach to winemaking is simple. They work with remarkable sites, so the job is simply to capture and coax the extraordinary richness of that fruit into bottle, retaining as much of the personality and vitality as possible. Low yielding sites, hand picked a little earlier into the vintage, yielding vines of outstanding power and singular excellence.

Teusner Wines is an artisanal, youthful expression of revered old Barossa vines, brought into focus by the efforts of devoted growers and the skills of the winemaker
Teusner Wines came into being late in 2001 when Kym Teusner witnessed a conversation between his girlfriend’s uncle and his brother. They were discussing the viability of an old Grenache vineyard, planted in the Northern Barossa Valley by their grandfather. The low yields and low prices being paid by the ‘Big Boys’ meant that the vineyard was running at a loss and was facing certain destruction! Kym was loath to hear this and approached his brother in law, now business partner, to see if they could scratch together enough cash to keep these gnarled old vines in the ground.

Terre a Terre make wines from the cool climate regions of Adelaide's Piccadilly Valley and Wrattonbully on the Limestone Coast.
Xavier Bizot and Lucy Croser both grew up surrounded by passionate winemaking families. In 2005 they launched their boutique wine import business, Terroir Selections. Together they unearthed small, terroir domaines from Europe for importation to Australia. Inspired by the wines they discovered, they purchased a special piece of land in Wrattonbully and planted their first vineyard. From the beginning the vision for Terre à Terre has been to grow the very best quality grapes, from the same vineyard sites every year, and then vinify them using the best of French and Australian wine practices. In addition to Terre à Terre, the couple also grow and make traditional method sparkling wine under the name DAOSA (Dedicated Artisans of South Australia), from their sparkling Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyards in Piccadilly Valley.

Temple Bruer produces award winning wines using sound organic oenological practices
David and Barbara Bruer established a small vineyard in the early 1970s at a property situated on the main road between the towns of Strathalbyn and Milang, in the grapegrowing district of Langhorne Creek. David was in charge of Roseworthy College's Oenology Department before becoming a full-time vigneron, while Barbara also taught chemistry at Roseworthy College and Flinders University for ten years. Fruit was initially sold to other appreciative winemakers. Gradually increasing quantities of wine came to be vinified on the property under the Temple Bruer label since the late 1970s. David and Barbara also established a vine nursery, using the property’s fertile soil to produce rootlings for sale to other growers.

The tale of Taylors winemaking goes back a few years – three generations in fact, and all began with Bill Taylor Senior, and his love of a certain Bordeaux wine. Originally wine merchants in Sydney, a passion for wine was all part of being a Taylor, and in particular, for the famous French Clarets such as Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux’s Medoc region. It was this long held fascination for these wines which inspired the family’s foray into winemaking, and provides the inspiration and winemaking philosophy behind all Taylors winemaking today – to produce premium wines of exceptional and comparable quality in Australia.

Tatachilla has been part of McLaren Vale since vines were first planted in 1887
The cooler regions of McLaren Vale produce highly aromatic fruit. Throughout it's rich and colourful history, Tatachilla has intuitively understood the potential of this maritime area with its rich soils and cooling sea breezes. McLaren Vale's climate is defined by the region's proximity to the sea and is distinctly Meditteranean. The vines of Tatachilla bask in sunlight, and are gently cooled by late afternoon sea breezes off the Gulf of St Vincent, and the gully winds rolling down the lower ranges.

Surrounded by undulating hills and with the waters of the Gulf of St Vincent sparkling in the distance, the view from Tapestry Wines is both relaxing and therapeutic the perfect environment for the discerning wine drinker or your next special function. Estate grown vines are the major source of fruit. The vines span two vineyards within the McLaren Vale Wine Region. Both vineyards are very low yielding and produce fruit and wines with intense flavour and concentration. Tapestry's commitment to quality has seen this relatively small boutique label receive a number of awards and go on to establish export markets everywhere.

Even as the ink was drying on the Petaluma purchase in 2001, Brian Croser's friends at Champagne Bollinger were forming a pact with the Croser family to begin again
Then along came the Cazes family from Chateau Lynch Bages in Pauillac. On a trip to Australia in 2002, Jean-Michel and his son Jean-Charles met with Croser and joined the partnership. The driving ambition was to own and make wine from the more than 30-year old Koppamurra Vineyard just north of Coonawarra. Tapanappa was born and Koppamurra Vineyard was acquired in late 2002. The property has since been renamed Whalebone Vineyard. The partnership was founded in a strong, mutually held belief that some pieces of ground are much better than others for the production of fine wine. Of course this superiority is highly specific to varieties and wine style. The Whalebone Vineyard and Cabernet Sauvignon in particular have a unique synergy. Croser learned of the wonderful quality of Cabernet from the Whalebone Vineyard 25 years ago when in 1980, he assisted Geoff Weaver to make his very first wine from this vineyard under the Ashbourne label.

The Tait family have been coopering the finest wine barrels for over a century, today they are one of the Barossa's premiere winemaking estates
The genesis behind Tait Wines was Giovanni Tait (1927-1997). Giovanni learned cooperage from his father and grandfather before migrating to Australia from Italy in 1957. He took up work as a cooper in the Barossa. His skill and craftsmanship at his chosen trade led him to B Seppelts and Sons where he took an active role in the vinification and maturation of wine in the finest oak casks.

Stonehaven takes its name from one of its vineyards which originally formed part of the pioneering Hynam Station established by one of the region's first settlers Adam Smith in 1846. The Step Rd Winery is situated in the beautiful Langhorne Creek region of South Australia, only 70km from the city of Adelaide
Step Rd was established in 1985, the members of the team share a passionate desire to produce world class wines reflecting the essence of their regions. It is home to two of Australia's most outstanding wine brands, Step Rd and Beresford. Established as a premium wine grape producing region as far back as 1860, Langhorne Creek is one of Australia’s oldest wine regions. Situated 70 km south east of Adelaide this stunning area is surprisingly cool due to its proximity to the Southern Ocean. Made up of largely flat plains sheltered by the Mount Lofty ranges with low winter-dominant rainfall and moderate daytime temperatures. The grape quality is enhanced by deep, rich alluvial soils, washed down by floods from the Adelaide Hills over the centuries. It is renowned for its reds, in particular Shiraz and Cabernet, which show great character, style and elegance.

There are no tales of bravery and courage, and no triumph of the pioneering human spirit. Of suffering and loss, but ultimate victory in the face of adversity all in the interest of bringing you a great drop of wine. Nope. Just a name that comes from some old story about a hungry dog and some German settlers and a bunch of winemakers who are pretty fanatical about what they do. So what Starvedog Lane lack in a colourful and eventful history, they more than make up for with some sensational wines. And at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about, right?

St Marys is a boutique, family owned, premium red wine producer, sited on some of the Coonawarra's most unique mix of soils.
St Mary's winery is situated on a strip of "terra rossa" soil 15 kilometres west of the township of Penola in the southeast end of South Australia. In 1909 the first members of the Mulligan family arrived in the Penola district. The property that St Marys Wines now stands upon was purchased in 1937. This property is 15km west of the town of Penola. Its primary use was for sheep and cattle grazing.

Spinifex is a small family owned and operated winery established in 2001 by Peter Schell and Magali Gely
Spinifex make small quantities of unique hand crafted regional wines from the Barossa and Eden Valleys. Spinifex are typically blended, as a more complete and complex, unique and characterful wine can be assembled from components that are the result of the interaction between variety, soil and meso-climate. Peter Schell makes all the wines at the estate winery in Bethany, Tanunda, where he also runs his own winemaking consultancy company. Over the years, the pair have both worked for Barossa wineries, including Mountadam and Turkey Flat (where Peter was winemaker from 2001 – 2005), whilst also working five vintages in the South of France. In 2001 Peter and Magali decided to start making their own wines, sourcing grapes from five old Barossa vineyards to complete about 400 cases in that first year.

Sons of Eden takes its name from the two partners, Winemaker Corey Ryan and Viticulturist Simon Cowham, who both learned and refined their trades in the vineyards and cellars of Eden Valley. A trained Oenologist and self confessed wine tragic, Ryan lives and breathes winemaking and has amassed a wealth of winemaking experience across Australia, New Zealand, France, Italy and Spain. Skillogalee sits quite small compared to many winemaking operations, at a mere sixty hectares. Within the Clare Valley, it occupies the western extreme of the Sevenhill sub-region and is bounded on the western side by the Spring Gully Conservation Park, home of the rare Red Stringy Bark gum tree. It is around 8km south of Clare township and about 135km due north of Adelaide.

Shaw + Smith's aim is to make contemporary, high quality wines that stand amongst the best of their type, both nationally and internationally. For a wine to be released under the Shaw + Smith label it must be an oustanding example of it's type, from grapes grown in the Adelaide Hills. For the first ten years Shaw + Smith focussed on Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, and now also make small quantities of Riesling, Pinot Noir and Shiraz. White varieties are well suited to the cooler climate of the Adelaide Hills, while Pinot Noir and Shiraz perform well in carefully chosen sites.
