Why the fifth leg? Recognised as one of Margaret River's leading estates, Devil's Lair is situated on the southern end of Leeuwin Peninsula, it produces some of the most meritorious wines in the Australian west. Devil's Lair know about stylish reds and have brought their smart vinification techniques to bear on the enduring Aussie blend. This funky ensemble of vibrant Cabernet, playing alongside the plummy beat of Merlot and rhythmic rumba of spiced Shiraz, will make your taste buds dance and groove and have some real fun.
You'd be barking up the wrong tree if you couldn't match a Fifth Leg to any occasion. Even if the food or company isn't up to the event, you know that you and the wine will have a devil of a time together. Elegance and finesse are qualities which set Fifth Leg apart. These characteristics are expressed strongly in every Fifth Leg, the combination of geology, geography and climes that are so unique. The core of fruit is sourced from good vineyards in Geographe and Margaret River. Following harvest and the crush, inoculation and vinification, some components are matured for a year in seasoned French oak barrels to add spice and complexity, the balance remains unoaked to retain vibrant, fresh fruit flavours.
TASTING NOTES
Bright ruby red with purple hues. A concentrated fruit focused nose exhibiting a complex array of cassis, dark berry and chocolate aromas, supported by well integrated cedary oak. Juicy on the palate, cherries and plums from the tender Merlot component, the underlying chocolateyness of the subtle oak, combined with lovely Shiraz spice and all things nice.
 Devils Lair
The winery takes it name from the nearby Devil's Lair cave, hidden amongst the hills of Margaret River
The Leeuwin Peninsula extends from 33.5 degrees south to the 34.5 South parallel. Tempered by the warm currents of the Indian Ocean, the area enjoys maritime conditions. At the southern end where the Indian and Southern Oceans meet at Cape Leeuwin, the respective warm and cold currents throw a pall of humidity and cloud over the area, moderating summer and winter extremes. Devil's Lair cave is an ancient, mysterious place known to have been inhabited as long as 40,000 years ago. Fossil remains of the elusive Tasmanian Devil discovered on the site are believed to be the origin of the cave's name. Hailing from the premium wine growing region of Margaret River, Devil's Lair forms part of the Great Estates that produce wines of the highest quality. Devils Lair»
