Roussanne is a deeply coloured grape that's native to native Valley Rhône, employed as a blender into both red and white wines, it introduces fragrant stonefruit and nutty nectarine characters. The Loon is a unique and stylish rendering of Shiraz, as beguiling as it is intense, characterised by its beautifully lifted fruit characters and exquisite balance, made boisterous through the inclusion and co fermentation of Roussanne skins. The Loon matches well with goat, game meats or lamb, a splendid accompaniement to mushroom, provolone or truffle recipes. Fruit is sourced from the Renshaw property at Marananga, a proven performer for Shiraz and suitable derivation of Roussanne. Torbreck have won peerless international acclaim for their profound efforts at co fermenting Shiraz in the timeless Rhone Valley way. Parcels of Roussanne are gently whole bunch pressed, the skins are de-stemmed and added to fermenting Shiraz. Upon completion, batches are matured fourteen months in a selection of seasoned French oak puncheons and barriques, which consolidate all parts and tame the tannins, without imparting any conspicuous oak. Components are assembled into the finished wine and bottled without fining or filtration.
TASTING NOTESBright scarlet colour. Pure and fresh bouquet, distinctive, offering hints of tropical fruit, bright red berries, minerals and graphite. The palate provides a silky, elegant and fine tannin structure, layered with dark fruit flavours, blackberries and plum, hints of dark chocolate with great purity of fruit. A splendid, savoury fruit filled finish, resolving on a length velvet tannins. |
