Tahbilk's history with Marsanne can be traced back to the 1860s when White Hermitage cuttings were sourced from St Hubert Vineyard. The grapes in fact were Marsanne and although none of these plantings have survived, Tahbilk still produces Marsanne from ancient stock dating back to 1927, some of the oldest in the world. Marsanne has immense individuality of flavour, good body and well worth trying if you want something different. A long and distinguished succession of Tahbilk Marsanne vintages have claimed multi trophy and copious gold.

Having barely scraped through the ravages of phyloxera and trying times for the industry, the fortunes of Tahbilk were turned around by Eric Purbrick who was the first to market bottled Australian wine under its varietal name. One of the world's rarest grape varietals with its origins in the Rhone and Hermitage regions of France, Marsanne is grown in only three other countries. Tahbilk can boast the largest, single holding of Marsanne in the world. Tahbilk Marsanne enjoys a dedicated worldwide following due to its integrity and charm, complexity and capacity to team wonderfully with foods at all stages of the wine's development.
