McWilliam's Hanwood Port has always been crafted from the highest quality fruit, grown entirely to the sun soaked vineyards of the Riverina. Hanwood is made through a solera based system, with the components topped up each year by selected younger, fresher wines. The oldest component of the blend is up to sixty years old. Grapes for the newer components are still picked in the traditional manner and vinified for seven to nine days until the addition of a neutral brandy spirit is added to arrest the fermentations. Most of the base wines are aged in smaller oak casks which are racked and replenished as they progress through a queue at the McWilliams cellars. Approx 19.0%
