Penfolds Grange, blossoms with fifteen to twenty years of bottle age, when most other reds have past their best, better vintages continue developing for decades longer. 1971 is one of the most long lived editions of Grange, due in no small part to the favourable weather. Shiraz and Cabernet grown to the precious Kalimna and Magill Estate vineyards, with further components from the finest sites in the Barossa, Clare Valley and Coonawarra. An excellent year across South Australia with ideal, generally warm conditions throughout both growing season and vintage. The result was an abundance of grapes of very high quality.
