Before he left Britain, Dr Penfold obtained vine cuttings from the south of France (were they Shiraz?) re-planting them around the site of his modest stone cottage at Magill. Great attention today is paid to the ripeness of Shiraz fruit that goes into the Bin 128, making the wine fuller in style and structure. A dry, warm winter promoted good bud fruitfulness followed by a spring with limited frost concerns, overall vine health was excellent. January was hot and dry, tempered by a cool February that steadied ripening. Warm weather at harvest ensured full flavour development. Bin 128 was matured for twelve months in 25% new French oak hogsheads, the balance under one and two year old French oak hogsheads. Alcohol 14.5%
